International conference “Texts and Contexts: the Movement of Language”, 6–7 May 2004

Conference Objectives: discussion of the process of formation and dissemination of text meaning in synchronic, diachronic and panchronic perspectives, the impact of microcontext and macrocontext on the comprehension of fictional and other texts; exploration of the linguistic expression of meaning formation; the hermeneutics of movement and the analysis of the interrelation of texts and contexts in an interdisciplinary perspective. Representatives of different research fields are welcome: literary criticism, linguistics, culturology, educology, history, philosophy, sociology, psychology, etc.

Subjects Proposed:
Text meaning from the point of view of receptive aesthetics.
Methodological aspects of comprehension:
hermeneutics, semiotics, phenomenology, analytical philosophy, cognitive linguistics, psycholinguistics, etc.
The linguistic aspects of meaning.
The age of information: interaction of text and technology.
Historical shift in text comprehension strategies.

Oral presentations can be delivered in Lithuanian, Russian, English, French and German.
Length of presentation: 15 min.

submit a completed participant form and an annotation of oral presentation (if a visa is necessary – by 1 March)

Upon receiving the participant form the Organising Committee will forward an invitation by 15 April 2004.


Articles presented at the conference are to appear as a reviewed collection of articles. Articles for the publication are to be submitted (by e-mail or on a floppy disc) by 15 May 2004.

Conference fee is EUR 10. It will be used for the publication of the collection of articles.

ARTICLE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Articles should be submitted in printed and electronic forms: acceptable text format -Word for Windows 9, Lithuanian letter encoding - Baltic Rim, Winlika, font - Times New Roman. The text should be typed on A4 paper format in one column (single interval). Margins: top – 1,8 cm, bottom – 9,8 cm, left – 1,7 cm, right – 8 cm. A new line starts at 7 mm indent.
2. Article parts should be printed using the following fonts:

Heading 14 Bold (capital letters)
Author 12 Bold
Institution 10 Italic
Text 10 Normal
Tables 9 Normal
List of References 9 Normal
Annotation 8 Normal
3. Article length – 20000–30000 characters.
4. Articles submitted in English, German, French or Russian should include an annotation and key words in the language of the article, and an abstract consisting of no less than 500–1000 characters.
5. References to quoted sources should be introduced in brackets: the number of the source in the list of references and page number, e.g. (2, 54).
6. The list of references should be presented at the end of an article; sources should be listed in alphabetical order according to the surnames of authors.
7. Deadline for submission of articles for conference publication is 15 May 2004.
