When in 2014 russia started the war in our country, annexing Crimea and occupying territories in Donetsk and Luhansk oblast, some members of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv community took up arms, embracing the sacramental “Who, if not you?”. In 2022 when russia began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv joined the fight for our freedom.

The family of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv suffers from irreparable losses.

This virtual memorial helps us to honor the memory of the students, alumni, faculty members and employees who fought for the freedom of Ukraine and fell on the battlefield. The bitter memory of the heroes of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, who died heroically or innocently, will be forever in our hearts.

“Heroes do not die!” This way we honor fallen heroes, those whose stories we should not forget, who will live on in our memories, whose memory will knock on our hearts.

Dmytro HOLITSYN – graduated from the Law Institute in 2004; died on 29 August, 2014 in hospital from injuries received in the battle for Ilovaisk

Anton TSEDIK – graduated from the Faculty of History of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Lance Sergeant of the reserve, volunteer of the 2nd Special Forces battalion of the NGU “Donbas”; died on 29 August, 2014 leaving the Ilovaisk encirclement through the “humanitarian Corridor” which was fired by russians on the evacuating soldiers.

Sviatoslav HORBENKO – student of Japanese philology at Educational and Scientific Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, soldier of The Right Sector Ukrainian Volunteer Corps, Hero of Ukraine; died on 3 October, 2014 during the defense of Donetsk Airport.

Anatolii KRAVCHUK – senior lecturer of the Department of Automotive Training, Faculty of Postgraduate Education Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; was killed on 26 February, 2022 on a combat mission.

Petro NEDODAR – driver of the garage vehicle of the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; was killed on 26 February, 2022 on a combat mission.

Andrii ZADOROZHNYI – cadet of the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, speciality “Military psychology”, Junior Lieutenant (posthumously); was killed on 26 February, 2022 while performing official duties.

Oleh TURIANSKYI – cadet of the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, specialty "Military Psychology", Junior Lieutenant (posthumously); died on February 26, 2022 in the course of their duties.

Yan SHEVCHENKO – cadet of the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, specialty "Military Psychology", Junior Lieutenant (posthumously); died on February 26, 2022 in the course of their duties.

Serhii OLEKSIIENKO – graduated from the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2009, Major of The Armed Forces of Ukraine; died on March 1, 2022 on a combat mission in Vasylkiv, Kyiv region.

Andrii HALCHUS – Head of the Linguistic Research Department of the Research Center of the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, one of the founders of the military terminology system in The Armed Forces and the author of the first military terminology standards; died on March 2, 2022.

Yuliia ZDANOVSKA – famous Ukrainian mathematician, graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, volunteer; was killed in a missile attack on the Kharkiv Regional Administration on March 3, 2022.

Mykyta PEREBYINIS – 2nd grade student of the Faculty of Information Technology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died on March 6, 2022 in Irpin, Kyiv region.

Oksana HAIDAR – journalist, blogger "Red Lady", graduated from the Educational and Scientific Institute of Journalism of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died on March 11 (12), 2022 near Brovary, Kyiv region.

Viktor KYRHAN – graduated from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Senior Lieutenant, commander of the reconnaissance platoon of the 11th Вattalion of The 59th Brigade; died on March 12, 2022 on a combat mission on deep reconnaissance near Stepova Dolyna, Kherson region.

Oleksandr BOICHENKO – graduated from the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died on March 13, 2022 in the battle for defense of Chernihiv.

Vladyslav SHYNKARENKO – graduated from the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2017, Senior Lieutenant of The Armed Forces of Ukraine; died on March 26, 2022 as a result of artillery shelling while performing his duties in the units that defended Toretsk, Donetsk region.

Taras KOVAL – cyborg of the Donetsk airport, member of The 95th Airmobile Brigade, law student of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died on March 29, 2022 in the village Sukha Kamianka, near Izyum, Kharkiv region.

Dmytro HUBARIEV – graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died at the Azovstal steel plant (Mariupol) in April 2022.

Andrii KRAVCHENKO – member of a research group at the Educational and Scientific Institute of High Technologies of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, developer of a new domestic hemostatic agent, died on April 3, 2022 during the defense of Kyiv.

Stanislav KOSHAR – graduated from the Faculty of Sociology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2019, member of The National Guard of Ukraine, The Azov Brigade, paramedic; died in the battle on April 15, 2022 in Mariupol.

Maksym MEDYNSKYI – journalist, graduated from the Educational and Scientific Institute of Journalism of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died on April 29, 2022 near Izyum, Kharkiv region.

Denys ANTIPOV – translator, graduate and lecturer of the Korean language at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died on May 11, 2022 near Izyum, Kharkiv region.

Ivan TINKOV – graduated from the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died on June 6, 2022 during the defense of Donetsk region.

Oleksii CHUBASHEV – military journalist, Soldier, author of the Recruit UA program, former head of Army FM and Military Television of Ukraine, graduated from the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died on June 10, 2022.

Ivan KONDRASHOV – Officer-Psychologist of the artillery division of a Separate Mechanized Brigade, graduated from the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died on June 20, 2022 as a result of artillery shelling in township Druzhkivka, Donetsk region.

Astamur HUMBA – graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died near Kharkiv in June 2022.

Mykola MOHA – graduated from the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died on August 16, 2022 on a combat mission.

Yaroslav MAIBORODA – student of the Faculty of Chemistry of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Member of The Azov Regiment; died on August 23, 2022 eastern region of Ukraine.

Denys POLISHCHUK – 3th grade student of the Faculty of Psychology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died on August 28, 2022 in the Kherson oblast (Since 28.08.2022 he was considered missing. On 29.11.22 DNA confirmed his death).

Vasyl Dovbnia – graduated from the Faculty of History of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Member of The 17th Battalion of The 57th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade of The Armed Forces of Ukraine; died on August 31, 2022 in the Kherson oblast.

Liubomyr BORDUN – deputy of the Kolomyia City Council of two convocations, Head of the Education Department, teacher of the Preparatory Department for Citizens of Ukraine at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2008-2011; died in the battle in September 2022.

Oleksii RUBTSOV – graduated from the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2004, Senior Lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; died on September 8, 2022, on a combat mission in the Donetsk oblast.

Oleksandr KUZNIETSOV – graduated from the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2016, Captain of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; died on September 16, 2022, on a combat mission in the Kherson oblast.

Bohdan KHARYTONOV – Officer, military psychologist, graduated from the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; was killed near Kharkiv on September 29, 2022.

Vitalii LUTCHENKO – Candidate of Biological Sciences, employee of the Institute of Microbiology and Virology named after D.K. Zabolotny National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, graduate from the Educational and Scientific Center "Institute of Biology and Medicine" of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, died on a combat mission in September 2022.

Oleksandr HOSHYLYK – Platoon Commander of the mortar battery of a Mechanized Battalion, Sergeant, graduated from the Ukrainian Physics and Mathematics Lyceum and Faculty of Physics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, heroically died on October 7, 2022 near Odradivka, Donetsk oblast.

Yurii ZASKOKA – 4th year postgraduate student of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Public Administration and Civil Service of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; police colonel, Head of the department of the Cyber Police, was killed in a missile attack on Kyiv on October 10, 2022.

Ernest SKALUN – graduated from the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, a member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade, 8th Separate Mountain Assault Battalion; died on October 12, 2022 near the village Berestove, Donetsk oblast, during the shelling on a combat mission.

Oleksandr DZIURKEVYCH – graduated from the Faculty of History of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2002, Commander of a mechanized platoon of a mechanized company of a Mechanized Battalion, Senior Lieutenant, died during assault operations and artillery shelling near Klishchiyivka, Donetsk oblast, on 29 October 2022.

Heorhii LYSENKO – graduated from the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2017, Major of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; died on November 6, 2022, near Bakhmut in a combat mission.

Volodymyr SUKHOLYTKYI – graduated from the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1998, Colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, died on November 19, 2022.

Ihor HOIVANIUK – graduated from the Faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2009, a Soldier of the 78th Battalion of the 102nd Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces named after Colonel Dmytro Vitovskyi; died on December 7, 2022 as a result of an enemy mortar attack on the northern outskirts of Dorozhnianka, Huliaypole territorial community.

Yehor LEBEDENKO – graduated from the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2022, Lieutenant, Officer-Psychologist of an anti-tank artillery battalion; died on December 11, 2022.

Yevhenii KULYNYCH – graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1993, died near the village Dibrova, Kreminna territorial community, Sievierodonetsk district, Luhansk oblast, on December 16, 2022.

Oleh RYBALCHENKO – graduated from the Faculty of History of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2015; soldier of the "Ukrainian Military Organization" of the 23rd Special Forces Separate Battalion of Bohdan Khmelnytsky of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; died in the battles for Bakhmut on December 21, 2022.

Oleh LIEBIEDIEV – graduated from the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1998; Staff Sergeant of the 204th Kyiv Territorial Defense Separate Battalion of the 241st Kyiv Territorial Defense Brigade; died in a battle near Bakhmut on December 23, 2022.

Oleksii BEZDOLNYI – graduated from the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2018; Officer; died on January 5, 2023 near Bakhmut.

Serhii VASYLCHUK – graduated from the Separated Structural Subdivision “Professional college of geological survey technologies” of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1992; Officer, Lieutenant Intelligence Officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; died on January 12, 2023.

Mykhailo MAKSIIAN – graduated from the Faculty of History of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2022; Warrant Officer of the Special Operations Forces; died on January 23, 2023.

Yurii YESYPENKO – graduated from the Faculty of Physics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1999; fighter of the 129th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; died on January 26, 2023.

Andrii LISIAK – 4th year student of Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, soldier of the 110th Territorial Defense Brigade; died on February 3, 2023 in the Donetsk direction.

Oleksandr SAMCHENKO – graduated from the Faculty of History of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2018; shooter of the Second Infantry Platoon of the First Infantry Company of the Motorized Infantry Battalion of the 72nd Brigade named after Chorni Zaporozhtsi; died on February 4, 2023, in the tough battle in Donetsk oblast.

Roman POLISHCHUK – graduated from the Faculty of Geography of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2015, Staff Sergeant of the platoon of the 206th Territorial Defense Battalion, 241st Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; died on March 10, 2023 in the battles near Bakhmut.

Yurii KOVALENKO – graduated from the Faculty of History of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2005, staff sergeant, Marksman of the 16th Separate Motorized Infantry Battalion "Poltava" of the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi, died on March 14, 2023, in tough battles near the village Kuzmine, Kreminna community, Sievierodonetsk district, Luhansk oblast.

Yurii DERDIUK – employee of the Yasynia training base for field geographical practices of the Faculty of Geography of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, died on March 18, 2023 in the battles near Bakhmut.

Konstiantyn SEMCHYNSKYI – graduated from the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2001, Lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, died on March 19, 2023 in Bilopillia, Sumy oblast.

Artem SHAMARA – graduated from the Faculty of History of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, a Soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, died on April 4, 2023 during an artillery shelling near the village of Bilohorivka, Luhansk oblast.

Oleh BYKHOVETS – graduated from the Faculty of Information Technology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2022, Platoon Leader of the 88th Battalion of The 35th Separate Marine Brigade, named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi; died on April 28, 2023 in Donetsk oblast.

Volodymyr MUKAN – graduated from the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and was its employee, Commissioned Officer of The Armed Forces of Ukraine; died on April 29, 2023 on a combat mission near Bakhmut.

Oleksii TYTARENKO – graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 1999, Junior Lieutenant, Deputy Commander of weapons company; died on May 7, 2023 in Donetsk oblast.

Viacheslav SOBOLEV – graduated from the Faculty of History of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; died on July 23, 2023.

Volodymyr TSARUK – graduated from the Faculty of History of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2001; died on July 23, 2023.

Yaroslav OTROK – student of the Faculty of Philosophy of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Soldier, Combat Engineer (Sapper) of engineer company of The Azov Special Operations Forces; died on July 29, 2022 as a prisoner of war, in captivity due to a terrorist attack in Olenivka, Kalmiuske district, Donetsk oblast.

Eleonora MALTSEVA – graduated from the Military Institute of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2011, Оfficer of The Armed Forces of Ukraine; died on July 30 (31), 2023 as a result of a russian missile attack on a combat mission.

Oleksandr SOKORENKO – graduated from the Faculty of Geography of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2017, Lieutenant of the military operations planning staff of The 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade; died on July 30, 2023 in the Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Nikita ZABILA – graduated from the Educational and Scientific Institute "Institute of Geology" of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2021, member of The 3rd Separate Assault Brigade; died on August 19, 2023 on the outskirts of Bakhmut on a combat mission.
