Professor Kseniia Smyrnova was born into the family of university professors on October 25, 1980 in Kyiv. She graduated with honors from the Institute of International Relations, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, in 2002.

In 2002, she enrolled on the postgraduate program (Department of Comparative and European Law, Institute of International Relations, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) and graduated from it in 2005. In December 2005, Kseniia Smyrnova defended the Candidate of Sciences dissertation “Sources of Law in the European Union” (specialty 12.00.11 – International Law).

November 2000 – September 2005 – a practicing lawyer.

October 2005 – August 2006 – a lecturer at the Department of External Policy and International Law, the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Since September 2006, she has been a member of the Department of Comparative and European Law, Institute of International Relations, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, first holding the position of Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor. She was awarded the academic rank of Associate Professor in July 2011.

In 2015, Kseniia Smyrnova defended the Doctor of Sciences dissertation “The Legal Order of Competition in the European Union (New Development Tendencies)”.

October 2016 – Head of the Scientific and Methodological Committee at the Institute of International Relations, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

2017 – Professor at the Department of Comparative and European Law (Institute of International Relations, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv). Kseniia Smyrnova was awarded the academic rank of Professor in 2019.

Professor Smyrnova participated in research and academic programs in the EU (Germany, France, Poland) and the US.

She was a visiting lecturer in the EU, UK, Turkey, China (Hong Kong) and other countries.

Professor Smyrnova is the head of the Section of the EU Law at the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence (Institute of International Relations, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv).

She has authored about 200 academic publications, supervised 4 Candidates of Sciences and PhDs.

Honorary award of the Supreme Council of Justice (2012). Recognition Letter from the Prime Minister of Ukraine (2017). Honorary award of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (2017). Recognition Letter from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2019).

2017 – Member of the Expert Advisory Council at the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine. August 2019 – Member of the Legal Reform Commission under the President of Ukraine.
