Professor Volodymyr Ilchenko was born into a family of teachers on February 15, 1960 in the city of Druzhkivka, Donetsk Oblast. He graduated with honors from the Faculty of Radiophysics, Taras Shevchenko State University of Kyiv, in 1981.

From 1981 till 1984 he was a postgraduate student at the Department of Semiconductor Physics, Taras Shevchenko State University of Kyiv. In January, 1987, Volodymyr Ilchenko defended his Candidate of Sciences dissertation “Mechanisms of Current Flow in Schottky Barrier Junctions of Amorphous Silicon”. In 2012, he defended his Doctor of Sciences dissertation “Electrophysical Characteristics of Semiconductor Heterostructures with Quantum Dots and Quantum Holes”.

In 1984, Volodymyr Ilchenko became a member of the Department of Semiconductor Physics, Faculty of Radiophysics, Taras Shevchenko State University of Kyiv, first holding the position of Assistant Professor and then the one of Associate Professor. In 1992, he was awarded the academic rank of Associate Professor.

From September 1999 till April 2001, he was a Visiting Professor at National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan.

April 2001 – Associate Professor at the Department of Semiconductor Physics, Faculty of Radiophysics, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

2009 – Deputy Director for Academic Affairs at the newly established Institute of High Technologies, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

April 1, 2015 – Acting Director of the Institute of High Technologies. November 3, 2016 – Director of the Institute of High Technologies, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In July, 2018, Volodymyr Ilchenko was awarded the academic rank of Professor (Department of Nanophysics of Condensed Matter, Institute of High Technologies, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv).

Professor Ilchenko has authored over 100 academic publications, as well as a few textbooks.

He is the co-author of the Strategic Plan for the Development of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Professor Ilchenko is a member of a few expert working groups at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Research Foundation of Ukraine.

He is married. His wife is a doctor. He has a son and a daughter.
