Our students - won Final Oral Round of European Law Students’ Association

On 3th – 7th March the Regional Round of the ELSA Moot Court Competition (EMC²) on WTO law took place in Leuven, Belgium. Ukraine was represented by the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv team, which joined the ranks of winners and proceeded to the Final Oral Round of the ELSA Moot Court Competition (EMC²) on WTO law.

The first step to victory was made on 13th – 14th February when the 4th National Round of the 8th edition of the ELSA Moot Court Competition (EMCC) on WTO Law took place on the premises of the Law Faculty of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, which is being conducted by the European Law Students’ Association – ELSA.

Among 5 teams which represented leading universities of Ukraine Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv team won the first prize. Team Captain Iryna Polovets, demonstrated the best personal results throughout all the rounds of the competition and was nominated as the best oralist.

The team was comprised of Iryna Polovets, Tetiana Kheruvimova, Kateryna Nikipelova and Anton Sintsov who are the most active participants of the scientific-research center on WTO law of Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv team organized under the supervision of the docent of International Private Law Chamber Sergii Koziakov.

The trainers were Counsel Viktoriia Kotsiubska (Coach) and Associate Anna Gladshtein (Co-Coach). Senior Partner of Volkov Koziakov and Partners Sergii Koziakov became an Academic Advisor, and Managing Partner Oleksiy Volkov taught a public speaking master class to the team. Besides, Volkov Koziakov and Partners provided the sponsor support of the team.

Students of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and members of the runner-up from Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv represented Ukraine in the Regional Round which took place on 3th – 7th March in Leuven, Belgium. The participants of the Regional Round represented such leading European universities as Maastricht University, University of Amsterdam, University of Bucharest, University of Palermo, Athens State University, King’s College London, University of Helsinki.
The jury or the "Panellists", according to the WTO terminology, was represented by prominent lawyers and experts in WTO law namely Dr. David Luff (Trade Com Facility for the ACP Countries, Appleton Luff), Prof. Petros Mavroidis (University of Neuchatel), Mr. Johan Billiet (Billiet Lawyers), Ms. Sara Nordin (White & Case).
The Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv team gained the right to compete in the International Round of the ELSA Moot Court Competition (EMC²) on WTO law, which will be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from 24th-30th May. Only 16 best teams from more then 100 teams athroughout the world are selected for participation.
